A Long Break

It's been a while since I made any updates. In the fall, after Solo Nationals, I decided to basically take the winter off. I let the car sit.  I warmed it up every couple of weeks and that was about it.  I ordered a square top intake from the UK which I plan to install during winter 2018/2019.  I might do some head work, still undecided.  Here's my video from Nationals last fall.

Brake Upgrades

My brakes work, but I'm still not satisfied.  I don't have enough brake to lock up the Avons which is forcing me to come off throttle and start braking earlier than I'd like.  I'm guessing that I'm losing close to a second on long courses.  Since Flyin Miata has an off the shelf solution, I decided to go with it.  Wilwood 4 piston calipers and upgraded to ND sport brake 11" rotors.  The installation was pretty easy.  The only pain was the parking brake which I decided to keep for Pro Solo staging.  With the upgraded rotors I'm at about 10-11lbs of total weight reduction, all un-sprung wheel weight.  FM says that the parking brake isn't strong.  It's at least as good as my stock brake was.  Pads are Wilwood Polymatrix E which have a fairly flat temperature curve for cold braking.  I'll report back on the performance improvements after the May Packwood event.
